health benefits

D3 and K2 work as a team.

Vitamin D and K2 work as a team. D3 helps you absorb calcium efficiently, while K2 directs it to your bones instead of your arteries. Tap an area to explore.

immune system

Vitamin D contributes to the normal function of the immune system:

  • Reduced risk of respiratory infections such as the cold and flu
  • Early research suggests a correlation between vitamin D and a reduced risk of the body developing certain types of cancer
  • Helps activate the body's natural response to fight disease
  • May help fight development of autoimmune diseases

calcium absorption

Vitamin D contributes to normal absorption/utilisation of calcium and normal blood calcium levels. Vitamin K contributes to the maintenance of normal bones.

  • Helps to absorb calcium in the intestines
  • Helps to reclaim calcium that would otherwise be lost through the kidneys
  • Vitamin K2 helps activate osteocalcin, a protein that binds calcium to the bone matrix
  • Together, Vitamin D3 and K2 support efficient calcium use — ensuring it goes to bones and not soft tissues
  • Plays a role in the mineralisation of bone
  • Maintenance of blood calcium levels within a narrow range is vital for normal functioning of all cells in the body, including the nervous system, as well as for bone growth and maintenance of bone density

muscles

Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal muscle function.

  • Helps to optimise muscle strength
  • Regulates neuromuscular functioning
  • Impacts protein synthesis
  • Deficiency may increase risk of muscle wasting

bones & teeth

Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and teeth. Vitamin K contributes to the maintenance of normal bones.

  • Helps regulate the amount of calcium and phosphate in the body, important for maintaining healthy bones
  • Vitamin K2 activates bone-building proteins that support long-term bone strength
  • The D3 + K2 combination helps ensure calcium is properly used to maintain strong bones and teeth
  • Increases level of calcium absorption in the body
  • Deficiency can lead to bone deformities such as rickets in children
  • Deficiency can cause bone pain and bone abnormalities such as soft bones (osteomalacia) or fragile bones (osteoporosis)
  • Deficiency may increase the risk of underdeveloped teeth, tooth decay and gum disease

cell division

Vitamin D plays a role in the process of cell division.

  • Plays a major role in the life cycle of human cells
  • Regulates the ability of cells to control molecules that can damage DNA or proteins
Note: The contents of the Omvits site are for informational purposes only and not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.

brain

Vitamin D contributes to psychological wellbeing:

  • Studies have shown a link between Vitamin D deficiency and the development of seasonal affective disorder (SAD)/seasonal depression
  • Plays a role in regulating mood

the honest timeline

what to expect from a daily vitamin D

Vitamin D is a level, not a dose. Here's how that level builds and where it settles.

Days 1–14

Building a level, not a hit

Vitamin D is stored in body fat and released slowly. You're raising a level, not dosing for the day.

Weeks 3–6

Your level climbs

Blood vitamin D rises steadily through the first weeks. D contributes to normal immune function and normal muscle function.

Weeks 8–12

It reaches a plateau

Most people level off somewhere here, where daily intake and daily use balance out. That plateau is the point.

Months 3+

The slow structural work

D3 contributes to normal calcium absorption. D and K2 both help maintain normal bones — a process measured in years.

from lichen. not from sheep's wool.

The only plant-based source of D3

Most vitamin D supplements are made from lanolin — the grease rendered from sheep’s wool. It works, but it rules them out for anyone eating plant-based, which is why a genuinely vegan D3 was hard to find for years.

Ours is made from lichen instead: a quiet, slow-growing organism that makes D3 the same way your skin does. It’s the only plant-based source there is, and it’s the same cholecalciferol your body already knows how to use — grown, not rendered.

A daily D3 is especially worth it for people who:

  • Have mostly indoor lifestyles
  • Live in countries without year-round sunshine
  • Wear sunscreen in the summer
  • Have darker skin
  • Wear long-sleeved clothes when outdoors
  • Can't get direct sunlight daily between 10am and 2pm

Why combine Vitamin D3 with Vitamin K2?

Vitamin D3 helps your body absorb calcium, while Vitamin K2 helps direct that calcium to your bones where it’s needed. Together, they support normal bone health more effectively than Vitamin D3 alone.

What is the difference between Vitamin K2 MK-7 and other forms of Vitamin K?

MK-7 is a highly bioavailable form of Vitamin K2 with a longer half-life in the body compared to MK-4. This means it stays active for longer and can be taken in lower, once-daily doses.

Why do these contain 10 times the UK RDA of Vitamin D? Is it safe?

400 IU (10 mcg) is a common recommendation for daily vitamin D supplementation.

However, studies have shown that this is not sufficient for many people. 4000 IU is a more potent and effective dose, which is still within the safe limits.

While it is true that Vitamin D toxicity can become an issue, this is generally for doses of 10,000 IU or more per day over a prolonged period of time.

Of course it is always best to check with your GP for your specific situation, but 4000 IU is a perfectly safe dose for most people.

Why is Omvits Vitamin D3 better than the Vitamin D I can get at the supermarket?

Most supermarket quality Vitamin D is made from cheap synthetic ingredients. We’ve gone further to find sustainable, plant-based ingredients.

For example, our Vitamin D is in the form D3 rather than D2 for higher effectiveness and we’ve removed palm oil from the formula.

Our D3 is sourced from plant-based Lichen extract, rather than the animal-based Lanolin or fish used in most other D3 supplements.

We have a high-strength 4000iu dose and offer a 3-month supply rather than the usual 1-month supply.

Are these suitable for children?

No — this formula is designed for adults due to the higher strength of Vitamin D3 (4000 IU). Children require different dosages appropriate to their age.

Can I take this alongside a multivitamin?

Most multivitamins contain small amounts of Vitamin D and/or K. Taking this product alongside them is usually fine, but always check the combined daily intake and consult your healthcare provider if unsure.

Can pregnant or breastfeeding women take Vitamin D3 + K2?

Vitamin D is commonly recommended during pregnancy, but Vitamin K2 supplementation varies by individual needs. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their midwife or GP before taking a combined supplement.

When is the best time of day to take D3 + K2?

Vitamin D3 is fat-soluble, so it’s best absorbed with a meal or snack containing healthy fats. Morning or lunchtime works well for most people.

How long does it take to feel the benefits?

This varies between individuals. While some may feel an improvement in energy or mood within weeks, bone-related benefits take longer as calcium metabolism adapts. Most people take Vitamin D3 + K2 for long-term maintenance.

Can I take this product year-round?

Yes — many people remain low in Vitamin D even through summer due to modern indoor lifestyles, sunscreen use, and limited midday sun exposure. Daily supplementation helps maintain consistent levels year-round.
