Vitamin D is one of the most common deficiencies around the world and it's not surprising. Unlike our ancestors, we spend most of our lives indoors and don't get as much direct sunlight as we'd like.
Even when spending time outdoors you can only produce vitamin D when your shadow is shorter than you are. If your shadow is longer than you (or you have no shadow at all), your body is not producing vitamin D.
That's why a supplement is especially important for people who:
Have mostly indoor lifestyles
Live in countries without year-round sunshine
Wear sunscreen in the summer
Have darker skin
Wear long-sleeved clothes when outdoors
Can't get direct sunlight daily between 10am and 2pm
Vitamin D contributes to the normal function of the immune system:
Vitamin D contributes to normal blood calcium levels.
Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal muscle function.
Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and teeth.
Vitamin D plays a role in the process of cell division.
Vitamin D contributes to psychological wellbeing:

That's why we support Vitamin Angels.
With their help, we've provided life-changing vitamins to over 25,000 malnourished children around the world.
This wouldn't be possible without the amazing customers who support us.
This year, we've pledged to help provide vitamins to at least 1,000 children every month.
Every purchase helps us achieve this goal.
Omvits Vitamin D3 tablets are flavourless and designed to be swallowed.
We decided to avoid adding unnecessary sweeteners and flavourings.
400 IU (10 mcg) is a common recommendation for daily vitamin D supplementation.
However, studies have shown that this may not be sufficient for many people. 2000 IU is a more potent dose, which is still within the safe limits.
While it is true that Vitamin D toxicity can become an issue, this is generally for doses of 10,000 IU or more per day over a prolonged period of time.
Of course it is always best to check with your GP for your specific situation, but 2000 IU is a perfectly safe dose for most people.
Vitamin D is the worlds most common deficiency.
The sun is definitely the best way to get your Vitamin D, but unfortunately, the UK (and much of northern Europe) doesn’t offer much sunshine - especially in the winter months.
Even during the summer, your body can only produce vitamin D between the hours of roughly 10am and 2pm, when the sun is at its peak.
Also, many people cannot spend much time outdoors, wear sunscreen in the summer or work in offices, leaving them deficient in Vitamin D.
In fact, the NHS recommends that everyone use a Vitamin D supplement in the winter months.
There are no vegetables that are a source of Vitamin D3, which is the most effective form of Vitamin D.
Some mushrooms are a source of the inferior D2. Our supplement is derived from Lichen, which is one of the only plant sources of D3.
Most supermarket quality Vitamin D is made from cheap synthetic ingredients. We’ve gone further to find sustainable, plant-based ingredients.
For example, our Vitamin D is in the form D3 rather than D2 for higher effectiveness and we’ve removed palm oil from the formula.
Our D3 is sourced from plant-based Lichen extract, rather than the animal-based Lanolin or fish used in most other D3 supplements.
We have a double-strength 2000iu dose and offer a 3-month supply rather than the usual 1-month supply.
Absolutely! Our supplement contains D3 which is the most effective form of Vitamin D. It’s the same type created by the body when exposed to sunlight.
Non-vegan D3 is usually made from fish, which have additional sustainability issues. Even vegetarian D3 is usually derived from Lanolin which comes from sheep fat.
Omvits Vitamin D3 offers the same effectiveness, but with clean, plant-based ingredients and no palm oil.
Yes, they are very small round tablets and are approximately 7mm across.
No, the entire range of Omvits products has no animal products whatsoever.
We are also registered with the Vegan Society.
Although there's nothing in the tablets themselves that would make them unsuitable for children, they contain a high-strength dose of D3 designed for adults.
We would recommend consulting your doctor before administering these to children.
Great vitamins, I have been taking for about a month and already much better for it, I love that I know where they come from, and that they are vegan, palm oil free and the packaging is fully recyclable. Also fats delivery!
An excellent product that is good value for money and ethically sourced.
I am not a huge fan of supplementing, BUT I have in my cupboard the MultiVitamin, Vitamin D3 and B12. As a Vegan I occasionally use the B12 (although I prefer using Chlorella) and occasionally the Multi if feeling below par. The Vitamin D3 I use daily during Winter months. The newsletter is fantastic - loads of great recipes and updates on Charity work etc. These guys seem genuinely friendly and eager to make the world a safer and healthier place. Keep up the good work.
I've a few products already with Omvits and this is no exception. The tabletd are tiny and easy to swallow.. sustainable fully compostable packaging too which really great. Great customer service to and fast delivery. Can't complain, recommend!
I would recommend this product, since it is an obviously good vegan product.
