As we enter our mid-30s and early 40s, the brain begins to slowly decline. We find it harder to retain new information, the stresses of life affect our mental health and our memory is not quite as sharp as it used to be.
The human brain is made up of around 60% fat and 10-15% of this fat is Omega-3 DHA. Including a steady source of DHA in our diet helps maintain a healthy mind.
Omvits Omega-3 offers a convenient way to give your brain the fatty acids it needs, keeping your mind nourished to take on life's challenges.
We all want our skin to look clear and healthy, but this seems to get more difficult as we age.
Omega-3 fats play an important role in sealing the moisture in your skin and keeping the irritants out, which helps prevent dry, rough and irritable skin. Omega-3 is also a powerful anti-inflammatory which studies show, may help prevent sun damage.
Why not feed your skin from the inside and see if Omvits Omega-3 can help to keep your skin clear, soft and supple?
Omega-3 DHA is a crucial nutrient for a growing baby. Especially in the third trimester when major brain growth occurs. Growing babies cannot produce their own DHA and must get this vital nutrient from the mother.
Unlike fish-based omega-3 which often contains toxins which are harmful to a growing baby, Omvits Omega-3 is sourced from farmed marine algae which is grown in purified water and contains no heavy metals, PCBs or other nasties.
If you're trying for a baby or have recently fallen pregnant, Omvits Omega-3 is the perfect way to get a clean and natural source of DHA for you and your growing baby.
Did you know that 93% of the fat in your retina is Omega-3 DHA?
Getting enough DHA helps to support healthy eyes and vision and has been linked to the prevention of age-related vision problems such as macular degeneration and cataracts.
It has also been shown to be effective in the prevention of dry eyes and redness.
“Omvits was introduced to me by my nephew who is a GP, and was concerned that as a vegan I would most likely be lacking in Omega 3.
I am so happy that I have now found a vegan alternative, and very pleased with the service received from Omvits.”
- Leslene P
“I was previously taking a fish oil based omega 3 supplement from a well-known high street chain and decided to switch to a plant based alternative, following a recommendation from my GP.
Went with Omvits because their price was competitive and I'm pleased with my choice. Delivery is quick and the product is great - no more fishy after taste but still feel all the benefits!”
- Kate L
“I've always taken omega 3. As time has gone on I've become more conscientious about where the supplements I take come from.
My sister (who is vegan), explained to me that it's the algae that fish eat that give us the nutrients, not the fish! So with more and more evidence that our seas are being over farmed, and the fact that you might as well get that source of omega-3 directly from the algae, I switched... and I wont go back.
Omvits provide excellent customer service, they give you a cost-effective option of buying multi-packs and I'm doing my bit for the planet! What's not to like?”
- Samantha E
“I was recommended Omvits by a nutritionist. She was horrified when I told her I had been taking a leading brand of Omega 3 fish oils for over ten years. Having been shown the facts about fish oil, I immediately disposed of the bottles I had left and ordered Omvits.
I can honestly say that the peace-of-mind that comes from taking a pure source of Omega 3 is liberating. Also to be able to “trust” a brand is amazing. I am now a committed Omvits customer.
Very easy to order and I had my parcel within a few days. Highly recommended”

A recent global survey found that adults in many parts of the world have very low levels of omega-3, including the UK.
People in North, South and Central America, Central and Southern Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Africa were all shown to be deficient.
The only countries with adequate levels seemed to be those with coastal communities and a diet rich in fresh fish.
It’s interesting to note that most of the countries marked as “low” or “very low” are also struggling with a rising rates of chronic inflammatory diseases like ischemic heart disease, arthritis and diabetes.
Just a coincidence or could all this be linked? We’ll leave that one up to you!

1. What are the benefits of Omega-3?
Omega-3 plays a role in cells throughout the entire body and can therefore produce numerous benefits.
It's best known for heart, brain, and eye health. It is also a crucial nutrient for pregnant and breastfeeding women as it plays a role in the development of the growing baby.
Omega-3 also promotes an anti-inflammatory response in the body, helping to defend against many inflammatory diseases.
Benefits which have been noted by our customers include:
2. How do I know Omvits Omega-3 is safe to consume?
Our Omega-3 is created with safety and quality as the top priority. Our manufacturing is certified to meet GMP, BRC Global Food Safety and ISO 9001:2015 standards.
Each batch is independently tested for heavy metals and microbes. Our formulation is 100% GMO-free, and free of the most common allergens including fish, wheat, gluten, crustaceans, eggs, nuts, soy and dairy.
We are also transparent about our ingredients to ensure your peace of mind.
3. What are the ingredients?
Active: 100% vegan algal oil (40% DHA), Vitamin E (dl-Alpha-Tocopheryl Acetate).
Softgel capsule: Undegraded carrageenan from red seaweed, modified corn starch (non-GMO), vegetable glycerine, purified water.
4. Is Omvits Omega-3 suitable for children?
Absolutely! In fact, Omega-3 is an extremely important nutrient for a growing child due to its role in brain function and development.
The capsules are suitable for children over the age of two and are soft and small in size. This makes them easy-to-swallow, especially for children. We don't explicitly state this on the packaging, as some children have trouble swallowing capsules, so we leave it to the parents' discretion.
If a child does have difficulty in swallowing capsules, the capsules can also be pierced and the contents squeezed into a drink.
As with any health supplement, you should always consult a doctor or paediatrician first.
5. Is Omvits Omega-3 safe to use during pregnancy?
Yes, absolutely. In fact, pregnant and breastfeeding women are likely to get the most benefit from our Omega-3. In addition to a normal daily intake of Omega-3, pregnant women require an additional boost of DHA for the normal development of the brain and eyes of their growing baby.
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) recommends a daily intake of 250 mg of DHA/EPA per day for an average adult, with an additional 200 mg of DHA per day for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Studies have shown numerous benefits of DHA intake for the health of both mother and baby.
As with any health supplement, you should always consult a doctor first.
6. How is Omvits Omega-3 different to other sources of plant-based omega-3?
Vegan Omega-3 supplements derived from seeds (usually Flaxseed) have been around for a while, but there's no comparison when it comes to effectiveness.
Not all Omega-3s are created equal. Without getting into the science too much, there are three main types of Omega-3: ALA, DHA and EPA.
Supplements derived from seeds are rich in ALA, but contain no DHA or EPA. Although ALA is good for your health, it is far less effective than DHA and EPA, which are responsible for the majority of the health benefits associated with Omega-3. Your body can convert some of the ALA into DHA and EPA, but not nearly enough for optimal health.
Omvits Omega-3 is rich in DHA, which is especially important for heart, brain and eye health, as well as foetal development during pregnancy.
This makes it a superior option to seed oils to meet your daily Omega-3 requirements.
7. I'm not vegan or vegetarian. Is Omvits Omega-3 right for me?
Our products are great for everybody who cares about the well-being of our planet - not just vegans! Anybody who is concerned about the future of our planet should be concerned about the impact of the commercial fishing industry on the oceans.
With our oceans currently being heavily overfished, combined with the world's growing population, fish is simply not a sustainable way to meeting the world's growing demand for omega-3.
Algae is the omega-3 source of the future, whether you're veggie, vegan or neither!
8. How do I take Omvits Omega-3?
Our Omega-3 softgels capsules should be swallowed whole with water and after a meal (ideally your fattiest meal of the day).
You can also pierce the capsules and squeeze the oil out if administering to young children.
9. Does Omvits Omega-3 have a guarantee?
Absolutely! We want you to be happy using our products, so we created the "Omvits® 90-day Happiness Guarantee" to give you plenty of time to try out your supplements.
It can take up to 8 weeks for your body to start feeling the effects of certain supplements. If you’re unhappy for any reason, just drop us an email, return what’s left and we’ll process your refund. Simple.
10. Does Omvits Omega-3 contain EPA?
Our original Omega-3 product is DHA only. The main reasons for taking this approach were value-for-money, capsule size and the fact that DHA is the real powerhouse of the Omega-3 family.
We thought it would be better to offer a really good dose of DHA in a small capsule, rather than increase the price and size of the capsules just to squeeze in a small amount of EPA.
Having said that, our Omega-3 Plus product is a great option for those customers who do want the extra EPA. It took us quite some time to develop as we wanted to include the EPA without increasing the size and shape of the capsules.
DHA is the most difficult Omega-3 for the body to produce, which is why it is particularly beneficial in supplement form. Although EPA is certainly an important Omega-3, studies have shown that people with a balanced diet rich in DHA can produce enough EPA naturally.
Whilst DHA and EPA have both have been shown to reduce inflammation, DHA is responsible for most of the benefits in relation to brain and eye health.
Based on our research, we think a high-quality DHA supplement is the best value for money for most people, but we've introduced an option for people who specifically wanted the extra dose of EPA.
11. Is Omvits Omega-3 allergen free?
Our Omega-3 is free of the most common allergens including fish, wheat, gluten, crustaceans, eggs, nuts, soya, dairy and artificial flavourings and preservatives.
12. Who can benefit from Omega-3 supplementation?
Omvits Omega-3 may be particularly beneficial for:
- Vegetarians, vegans or anyone with very little oily fish in their diet
- People concerned about the sustainability issues around fishing
- Pregnant and breastfeeding women
- People over the age of 50 who are at higher risk of cardiovascular disease, cognitive and visual decline or joint pain
- People with seafood allergies
- People who suffer from dry eyes
- People wanting to improve their concentration levels and memory
- Young children
- People wanting to improve the health of hair, skin and nails
13. Does Omvits Omega-3 contain Omega-6?
No this does not contain Omega-6. Although Omega-6 is an important fatty acid, the modern diet is very rich in Omega-6. In fact, most people consume far too much, to the point that it is affecting our health.
The ideal ratio of Omega 3 to 6 in the diet is 1:1, while is reality it is closer to 1:20 in the western world.
For this reason, we did not include any Omega-6 in our products as there is little health benefit to supplementing with it.
In most cases, it's far better to increase your Omega-3 and reduce your Omega-6.
14. I use an Omega 3-6-9 supplement. Isn't that better value that Omega-3 alone?
You may think that a supplement which contains Omega 6 and 9 as well as Omega-3 is a better choice than Omega-3 on its own.
However, most of us already get plenty of Omega-6 from the foods we eat. In fact, we are eating so much Omega-6, that it is having a negative effect on our health by causing inflammation.
By taking a supplement with added Omega-6, you could be damaging your health further. As for Omega-9, this is not required in our diet at all. Omega-9 is a “non-essential” fatty acid, as it can be created by the body from other nutrients.
It's far better to get a high quality Omega-3 supplement.
15. What is the difference between Omega-3 and DHA?
Omega-3 is the name given to a family of “good fats” that the body needs in the diet and there are many different types. DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid) is one of the fats in the family and provides most of the benefits of Omega-3.
It’s also the most difficult to get without oily fish, which is why it’s particularly beneficial as a convenient supplement.
16. How is your algae extracted? Is there any use of Hexane or any other solvents in the extraction process?
Schizochytrium is a strain of algae found in coastal marine habitats and is naturally rich in Omega-3 DHA. These algae are cultivated in a sterilised environment and then fermented in vats of purified water. This not only prevents impacts to the natural ecosystem but also avoids the risk of any pollutants or contaminants from sea water. During this process, the algae synthesise the DHA-rich oil which is then extracted using a solvent-free process.
The extracted oil is then treated and mixed with Vitamin E to prevent oxidation, after which it is ready to be filled into our veggie softgels.
Obviously, there's a lot more to the process, but this provides a basic overview.
17. What is the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for Omega-3?
There is no official standard for how much Omega-3 we should get each day. However, most health organisations agree that 250–500 mg per day is sufficient to maintain good overall health.
One such organisation is the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), who recommend the following:
Adults:
- 250 mg DHA or EPA per day for normal adults
Pregnant/breastfeeding women:
- 200 mg DHA per day in addition to normal adult requirements (450 mg total).
Children (7-24 months):
- 100 mg DHA per day
Children (2-18 years):
- 250 mg DHA or EPA per day
18. Why is Omvits Omega-3 better than fish oil?
There is no doubt that fish oil has some health benefits, however, there are also well documented downsides. If you are considering buying a fish oil, here are a few things to bear in mind:
1) Many fish oils are cheap, but you should be aware of what you are paying for. These cheap fish oils are regularly of poor quality and contain relatively small dosages of DHA/EPA. They often have not been properly processed to remove heavy metals and toxins. You'll also find that they have a very strong "fishy" smell or taste. This is because the oil is starting to go rancid as the polyunsaturated fats start to go bad.
2) If you saw how fish oil is made, you probably wouldn't want to put it in your body! Fish scraps are mashed, steamed and squeezed to get the oil out before it goes through further processing.
3) Our seas are more polluted now than they have ever been. Fish often contain harmful levels of contaminants and toxins including heavy metals, PCBs and dioxins. High levels of these substances in your diet can have serious health consequences, particularly for pregnant women.
4) There are major concerns about the impact of overfishing on world fish stocks. According to the United Nations, world fish stocks are expected to collapse by the year 2048 if current practices continue. Algae on the other hand, is fully sustainable and a great alternative to fish oil for vegans and non-vegans alike.
5) Fish is a highly inefficient way of getting Omega-3 in comparison to algae. Pound-for-pound, algae contains approximately twenty times the amount of Omega-3 as fish. In other words, for every 20 kilograms of fish taken out of the ocean, you'd only need 1 kilogram of algae to produce the same amount of Omega-3!
19. I’m not vegan but prefer eco-friendly options. Is Omvits Omega 3 as good as fish oil?
First of all, well done for trying to opt for the sustainable option!
The reason why fish are rich in Omega-3 in the first place is because they eat algae. We use the same type of algae to create Omvits Omega-3.
This way, you can get the same bioavailable form of Omega-3 directly from the source, but without the fish, toxins and pollutants!
Unlike seed-based Omega-3 supplements, the type of Omega-3 found in algae is the same as that found in fish and krill... Just without the middleman!
20. How does Omvits Omega-3 compare to cod liver oil?
As a source of Omega-3, algae oil is far superior. Cod liver oil has a slightly different composition as it contains small amounts of vitamins A and D.
However, it generally contains lower concentrations of Omega-3 and not enough vitamin D to meet the average person's requirements. Vitamin A is easy to get from your diet with fruit and veg.
In addition, the liver of fish is where all the sea-borne toxins and heavy metals accumulate. Cod liver oil can contain these nasties, which you definitely do not want in your body.
21. How do I know this algae is free from Mercury and other heavy metals which also contaminate fish?
Our algae is grown in a closed system in purified water and not taken from the sea.
Not only does this mean that the algae is completely free of ocean-borne contaminants, it also doesn't disrupt the delicate marine eco-system.
